I am not happy with the vegan options at Swarthmore. There is always at least one vegan option (usually one entree-type dish and one steamed vegetable), but these options can be pretty tasteless, and the lack of variety is a big minus in my opinion. Furthermore, after meeting with the dining staff about options, I was told to avoid the whole ‘grill’ section where they make vegan burgers, which aren’t supposed to be cooked on the same place and with the same utensils as the real meat, but most often are, as well as the french fries/tater tots at that station daily, as the fryer fries fish as well. The dining staff is helpful, however, if you do meet with them; they bought me some tofutti cheese. But they want every person to meet with them on an individual basis; they do not want to provide vegan cheese to the whole school. Another reviewer mentioned Essie Mae’s Snack Bar. I avoid their hot food at all costs – you can watch them grab the meat with their gloves and then grab the veggies and let little pieces of meat fall into the veggies. It is all cross contaminated. (Also, they stopped serving vegan cheese there last year to the best of my knowledge).

Essie Mae’s Snack Bar has a vegan tofu veggie wrap with the option of soy cheese… perfection!! 🙂 🙂
