Indiana University serves a variety of vegan options!

Throughout IU eateries there are various concepts serving vegan options. These include the beyond burger (with option of Daiya vegan cheese) that is offered in the dining halls of Wright, Woodland, and Gresham. There are also vegan subs in the deli line served with homemade hummus. In the Bookmarket Eatery you can find the Panino Mio concept that offers a vegan soup every day, with new recipes being tested by chefs regularly. The Traveler, which is offered at three Eateries at IU, has regular vegan entrees and sides. This dining concept features a different countries cuisine each week. At Woodland & Wright Eatery, the Mangia Italian concept offers vegan pasta & marinara. At Caliente, the Latin American concept, there are vegan quinoa and rice bowls, with choices of black beans or pinto beans.

There are also prepackaged items at dining locations including vegan bento boxes with veggie sushi or black bean hummus and fresh vegetables.

Each dining location offers nondairy milk such as chocolate and vanilla almond milk as well as soymilk.

Throughout the dining locations are vegan desserts being regularly served. There are vegan fruit pies, bars, chocolate torte tarts, fruit crisp, cakes, brownies and cookies. We have a team of pastry chefs that test a variety of vegan desserts frequently!

IU also has a campus farm that provides beautiful greens and fresh vegetables for our dining locations.

All vegan and vegetarian options are labeled appropriately on our online menu data base, Net Nutrition, found on the IU Dining website.

Overall, Indiana University offers a good variety of vegan options throughout campus and continues to work to accommodate vegan students.

I am happy to share with you an overview of what Indiana University offers for vegan students and those choosing vegan options on campus! We are excited by the great response from the vegan students here, especially at Collins, which is where we offer the most variety of vegan entrees. Feel free to call me anytime with questions (812-856-5851)

We include 2-3 homemade vegan desserts on the menu each week at our traditional dining hall (Collins). Here are a few on our current rotation:
Vegan crisps: vegan apple, vegan cherry, vegan peach
    Cookies: vegan peanut-butter, vegan sugar
    Tofu brownies
    Pie: vegan apple crumb

We offer an excellent homemade vegan challah bread, which is served regularly in our food courts and used for a number of our pre-packaged deli sandwiches.

Some of the students’ favorite vegan entrees include acorn squash stuffed with brown rice casserole, spicy Thai noodles & peanut sauce, vegan grilled peanut-butter and banana sandwich, tofu French toast, vegan banana hotcakes, baked tomatoes made using wheat germ..salt..pepper..olive oil,,garlic, and basil, pasta black bean casserole, hummus pizza, kasha with zucchini and peppers, and vegan spinach minestrone.

Our Eat Right breakfast bar is offered to help IU students start their day off RIGHT. It’s filled with a variety of fresh fruits, oatmeal and toppings, and in-house-made granola. (The granola is sweetened w/apple juice and some honey, thus not vegan due to the honey).

Finally, we offer vegan pre-packaged sandwiches and wraps, made on campus (tofu breakfast wrap and tempeh salad sandwich), and have a number of great options at our newest dining locations, The Restaurants at Woodland and El Bistro Cafe at Read. There, students enjoy the salad concept where customized salads can be made to order (photo attached). The Mexican concepts at both locations also feature options that are nutritionally packed and vegan…bean and rice bowls with an option of fresh salsa at Bueno (two locations on campus), and quinoa or rice with either black or pinto beans at Caliente at the Restaurants at Woodland. Here is an article from Food Service magazine speaking of the facility: http://www.foodservicedirector.com/ideas-innovation/design-portfolio/snapshot/restaurants-woodland-indiana-university-bloomington.
Overall, we are always expanding and enjoy connecting and gaining feedback from VegIU (http://www.indiana.edu/~vegiu/index.php) on campus (student veget./vegan group).
