It is very hard to be a vegetarian/vegan at Barnard. They try to have at least one side that is vegan and one side that is vegetarian and that’s it. There’s a nice salad bar, but that it. It’s either rice every day with a side of veggies or potatoes and/or salad. They have gluten-free options and kosher options that are extensive, but do not offer vegan friendly options.

Being vegan at Barnard is VERY difficult. I’ve been vegetarian for over two years, and when I attempted to merge into veganism I could only eat french fries (probably fried with chicken anyway), baked potatoes, and poorly cooked veggies if I didn’t want to eat salad all the time. Being vegetarian isn’t very difficult, but being vegan is tough. The school attempts to provide its students a variety of options, but they tend to do a poor job. It’s disappointing too because we’re in New York so cruelty-free food options are abundant. I’d give Barnard dining a C.
