The UW-Oshkosh dining facilities are a cruel joke to vegans. I am paying, like most students, $2600 a year for a meal plan and many days there is not any way to get enough food!

They make no distinction between vegetarians and vegans so if you want to eat pasta one day (pasta is basically the only vegan food they serve) – you will have to do it without any sauce – because the sauce is not vegan. Not even the tomato sauce is vegan. Oftentimes even the ‘vegetarian’ tomato sauce they list on the menu gets swapped out for meatball sauce – and you have no idea of how you will eat until you actually get to the dining hall. The only vegan food that is consistent is the salad bar, but you cannot sustain yourself on salad alone.

We should not be forced (yes they require us) to have a $2600/year meal plan if they do not serve vegan friendly food.

UWO has limited options for vegan. They do have dairy free milks, but they’re in a cooler that students are not able to access, therefore must ask a worker. They offer pasta just about every day for vegans, but the tomato sauce isn’t even vegan, so I usually top mine with olive oil, not the most flavorful. The salad bar is decent but is lacking in hummus and any type of beans. They do occasionally have better options though such as vegan paella or a curried tofu. But most days it’s just the basics, a cooked vegetable, pasta, and sometimes jasmine rice.
