As a vegetarian athlete who has protein requirements, eating here is impossible. Best case scenario is a salad bowl, where the only consistent protein source they have is hard-boiled eggs (though they often have edamame, and occasionally tofu). I would be much happier off the meal plan, but unforunately, that is not an option BC is willing to accomodate.

Boston College does a good job collaborating with vegan students, often holding focus groups to receive feedback from vegan students and connect students with cafeteria managers. Vegan food is labeled, with all of vegan menu items, including salad bar and a la cart items daily, and 1 week in advance labeled with a vegan logo. There are always daily options for vegans, with a variety of protein sources including tofu, beans, and grains. Special options include an all vegetarian station B’n Green, that can be made vegan upon request, as well as vegan soup options. Boston College does a great job responding to vegan’s food needs!

Boston College does care about their vegan students. They just held a focus group to receive feedback from vegan students and connect students with cafeteria managers. BC lists all of our vegan menu items, including salad bar and a la cart items daily, and 1 week in advance it is labeled with vegan sticker. There are always daily options for vegans, with a variety of protein sources including tofu, beans, and grains. Special options include an all vegetarian station B’n Green, that can be made vegan upon request, as well as vegan soup options. They are really trying to help make vegans’ dining experiences better!

BC has made huge strides in the last few years to be more accommodating of different lifestyles. The Dining Services Director is definitely supportive of veg options and his first chef job was at a vegetarian restaurant! They’ve met resistance with the student body in the past when they’ve pushed Meatless Mondays. I worked with them to create Make a Difference Mondays but I don’t think they’ve stuck with it. Womp.

Eating vegan at BC is nearly impossible with only on campus dining. Although BC dining services has several dining halls they are severely lacking in vegan options. I remember talking to one of the larger dining hall managers one day telling her I had recently adopted a vegan diet and was finding the dinner options lacking. To which she responded with complete seriousness advising me of the macaroni and cheese station. Where the servers added whichever ingredients you wanted into not pasta, but pre made macaroni and CHEESE. I stared at her for a moment until I realized she really didn’t get why that wasn’t a vegan option. She had zero other suggestions for dinner
